Let me give you a breakdown of all their albums in my opinion:
- 1,039/ smoothed out slappy hours is their first album and is very much Green Day in their adolescence. The recording quality isn't as good as they recorded this album at an indie record label but it's still worth listening to.
-KERPLUNK! Is their second album and the first album with Tre cool as the drum player. In my opinion this is when they really found their sound. This album has great songs like: one for the razorbacks, welcome to paradise, Christie road, dominated love slave ( joke song written by Tre cool that is very similar to the secret track to dookie, all by myself. ), no one knows, strange land, and a cover of my generation. However this is still recorded at the indie record label so the recording quality is still not the best.
- dookie Is their third album and the first recorded at a major label. This is when their career really blasted off. If you haven't already check out the 30th anniversary edition, it's got some interesting demos and outtakes along with their performance at mudstock 94.
- insomniac: their fourth album released right after dookie. They go for a more heavy nirvana like sound in this album. Unfortunately this album didn't do well as Warner had them release it right after dookie. This album has some of their best songs such as: stuck with me, geek stink breath, no pride, 86, panic song, Stuart and the avenue, brain stew, and walking contradiction.
- nimrod: a great album where they go for a more pop punk influence. Has great songs such as: nice guys finish last, hitchin a ride, the grouch, uptight, last ride in, haushinka, good riddance, and prosthetic head. And if you haven't already check out the nimrod 25th anniversary edition: it's got some interesting demos and outtakes and their entire performance at the electric factory in Philly!
-Warning: a very different and experimental album. A lot of people didn't like this album back then because it didn't sound like Green Day.
- shenanigans: now this isn't an actual studio album this is a compilation album of b sides but it is still worth noting. Has great songs such as: desensitized, you lied, espionage, I wanna be on tv, rotting, cover of the kinks song called tired of waiting for you, a dookie outtake called on the wagon, and haha you're dead.
- cigarettes and valentines: now this is an interesting one... this is their lost album. They recorded this song back in 2002 and intended it for a 2003 release but the master tape was mysteriously stolen. Billie Joe says this was a blessing in disguise because after the album was stolen they scrapped it and made American idiot. Eventually they got the album back around 2009 but still won't release it but I have compiled all the information we have into a possible track list for this album:
1. Cigarettes and valentines ( played live in 2009, part of the live album awesome as f**k! )
2. Favorite son ( re-recorded and released as an American idiot bonus track )
3. Hearts collide ( re-recorded and released as a b side to know your enemy )
4. Too much too soon ( confirmed to be a part of cigarettes and valentines by Billie Joe, re-recorded and released as a b side to American idiot. )
5. Dropout ( confirmed to be a part to be a part of the album by Mike dirnt, originally from the warning sessions, re-recorded and released as the song brutal love on TRE
6. Sleepyhead ( confirmed to be a part of cigarettes and valentines by Mike dirnt, originally from the warning sessions, re-recorded and released as the song stray heart on DOS
7. Wasteaway ( confirmed to be a part of cigarettes and valentines by Mike dirnt, originally from the warning sessions, re-recorded and released as the song oh love on UNO
8. Broadway ( re-recorded and released as the song with the same name on the Green Day side project called foxboro hot tubs only album called "stop drop and roll!"
9. Horseshoes and hand-grenades ( re-recorded and released as the song with the same name on 21st century breakdown )
10. Lights out ( re-recorded and released as a b side to know your enemy )
11. Olivia ( played only once alongside cigarettes and valentines, has not been released. )
12. lately ( one more year )
13. Minnesota girl ( played a couple of times at Minnesota, this song has not been released but you can find a phone message demo online. )
14. Shoplifter ( re-recorded and released as a b side to American idiot. )
15. Clusterbomb ( re-recorded and released as the song "letterbomb" on American idiot, originally from the warning sessions.
16. 19th nervous breakdown ( Rolling Stones cover that hasn't been released )
17. What about today? ( unreleased, phone message demo can be found online )
18. Too young ( unreleased )
19. Walk away ( re-recorded and released as the song with the same name on TRE )
20. End of the world ( rewritten and released as the first part of the song "forever now" on revolution radio )
- Money Money 2020: a Green Day and Devo collaboration. Full of great songs such as: Joe robot, reto, supermodel robots, spike, right hand a Rama, and teenagers from mars.
- American idiot: the beginning of the Green Day renaissance, full of amazing songs.
- stop drop and roll! Written by the foxboro hot tubs: a great green day side project album, has great songs such as: stop drop and roll, mother Mary, broadway, she's a saint not a celebrity, sally, and alligator.
- 21st century breakdown: an experimental and slow album. My problem with this album is that it tries too hard to be American idiot part 2 but still has great songs such as: 21st century breakdown, know your enemy, viva la Gloria, before the lobotomy, east Jesus nowhere, last of the American girls, *Viva la Gloria* ( little girl ), horseshoes and hand grenades, and American eulogy.
- UNO: a lot of people like this album but however I have this as my least favorite album and my reason for that is because it sounds too much like music you would hear in a ford Chevy commercial, however it does have good songs such as: stay the night, carpe diem, let yourself go, kill the dj, troublemaker, and oh love.
- DOS: this is an alright album. Billie Joe said somewhere is the secret second foxboro hot tubs album and I can see that. It has good songs such as: f**k time, stop when the red lights flash, lazy bone, wild one, and stray heart.
- TRE: their most experimental album. Full of great songs such as: brutal love, X kid, Amanda, walk away, dirty rotten bastards, and 99 revolutions.
- UNO, DOS, TRE Trilogy outtakes: ruby mae, hotfoot jamboree, State of shock, and dream catcher.
- demolicous: a compilation album of the trilogy demos. Maybe this is how they should have done it instead of dragging it into a trilogy?
- revolution radio: a good Green Day album. Has good songs such as: somewhere now, bang bang, revolution radio, outlaws, still breathing, Youngblood, too dumb to die, Troubled times.
- father of all... nevermind this is their most experimental album! This isn't a very well liked album but it still has great songs.
- no fun Mondays: a solo compilation album of cover songs made by Billie Joe and his sons.
Money Money 2020 part 2: a 25 song sequel to money money 2020 part one, has some good songs such as: trans am, fentanyl, degenerate, and art of the deal of the devil.
- hella mega singles: these are singles that were released to promote the hella mega tour:
1. Here comes the shock: a single that sounds very much like a father of all outtake.
2. Pollyanna: a summer song released to promote the tour.
3. Holy Toledo!: a song released in a movie soundtrack.
The following were recorded in these sessions but didn't get released:
4. One eyed bastard: this is the version that leaked on the internet but it has been re-recorded and will release on saviors.
5. Look ma no brains: an early version of this song that has already been released as the second single off of saviors.
6. Rock and roll All nite: a cover song that they played in the hella mega tour.
- saviors: their upcoming album.
