On October 30, 2011, Anthony Green and Colin Frangicetto came out to play. Normally, bands couldn’t announce appearances like this—contracts with venues for their official shows prohibited them from performing within a certain radius of a scheduled concert. But word got out anyway. Once people heard that Circa Survive was coming, Dilworth Park in front of City Hall began to fill with thousands upon thousands of mostly teenage girls.
We didn’t have a real stage. In fact, we didn’t have a stage at all—and we had no security. So I grabbed some twine and made a “fence,” using my two speakers as fence posts. Much to my amazement, the crowd respected the boundary and never crossed the line.
After the performance, Anthony and Colin decided to step directly into the crowd of screaming fans. I asked Anthony, “Don’t you want some security to go with you?” He looked at me, smiled, and said, “No.” Then they disappeared into the masses.
Other musicians that performed that weekend included Xap (of the BurnDown All-Stars), Fast Car, and Schoolly D.
